DESCRIPTION:
LPW - Waltham, Riverside, 11J, 8S, heavy 14K gold or better (tested, exhibiting fade on stone of 18K solution, no fade of 14K solution) original HC with inaccurate 18K marking, unusual partially scalloped band with three scallops at top and three scallops at bottom, exquisite ornate engraving detail including a small lake and mountain scene within rear shield, "Pat.d Nov. 18 J.L. 1876" marking inside front lid, gold cuvette engraved "Mary E. Stoutenborough," bow with chain guards, white enamel SS dial, SW-LS, gilt mvt, s#873377. Comes with a fitted leather box and also with a small card marked "Mary E. Stoutenborough" which matches correctly to the case inscription. Gross weight of assembled watch 51.4 dwt (80.0 g). A strikingly beautiful gold case in exceptionally crisp condition, the unusual band form of this case was patented by Jacques Laurent on November 28th, 1876 as US design patent number 9659 (interestingly though the patent information stamped within the case has an error of 10 days regarding the date).
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, few fine scratches, some ultra-fine scratch striations likely caused by a past wiping; dial flawless in visible portion; nearly mint hands; case shows virtually no wear, no dents or dings, exquisite crisp engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows hardly any wear; good glass crystal; box shows light wear, small bits of finish loss at edges and corners, some peeling of finish at upper-rear right side.
